Atletico Madrid and Brentford have both expressed interest in signing Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche from Getafe during this summer’s transfer window.
Uche made his debut in Spain’s top division this season after moving from third-tier Ceuta. His impressive performances sparked rumors of interest from clubs like Chelsea in the winter window, although no deal was reached. In the recently ended LaLiga season, the 22-year-old contributed four goals and six assists in 33 appearances, including a crucial goal that helped Getafe avoid relegation.
Following his breakthrough campaign, bigger clubs are now keen to secure his services. According to Africa Foot, both Atletico Madrid and Brentford are among the clubs eyeing the Nigerian talent this summer.
Atletico Madrid are in urgent need of midfield reinforcements, with several senior players like Koke and Axel Witsel expected to leave as their contracts expire in June. Meanwhile, Brentford aims to strengthen their squad to either maintain their Premier League status or push for European qualification next season.
Transfermarkt values Uche at €8 million, but Getafe reportedly demands a minimum of €20 million (about ₦36 billion) for the midfielder. The club is in a strong position as his release clause stands at €25 million and he still has three years remaining on his contract.
At 22, Uche is entering the prime development years of his career. While he has shown great promise at Getafe, moving to a bigger club with higher quality teammates and coaching could accelerate his growth.
Atletico Madrid might be a good fit since Uche’s tenacious and intelligent style aligns well with coach Diego Simeone’s demands. Though nothing is finalized yet, a clearer picture of Uche’s future should emerge in the coming weeks.
