Atlético Madrid Go Top of LaLiga After Convincing Win Over Sevilla

Atlético Madrid moved to the top of the early LaLiga standings after securing a commanding 3-1 victory away to Sevilla on Saturday, despite the absence of unsettled striker Julián Álvarez.

Diego Simeone's side took control of the contest early, scoring three times before half-time. Álex Baena opened the scoring in the fourth minute after being played through by Lee Kang-in, before Ademola Lookman doubled Atlético's advantage midway through the first half.

Baena then completed his brace in the 33rd minute, producing a composed finish from outside the box after being set up by Marcos Llorente.

Sevilla improved after the interval and managed to pull a goal back through Miguel Sierra, but the hosts were unable to build on the momentum and Atlético comfortably saw out the remainder of the match.

The victory gives Atlético seven points from their opening three league matches and temporarily puts them at the summit of LaLiga.

The result also offered a positive response to the ongoing Álvarez transfer saga. The Argentina international was left out of the squad for the trip to Sevilla after being linked with a move to Barcelona and Arsenal. Simeone has maintained that the club wants to support the forward through the situation.

Baena, meanwhile, continued his impressive start to the season and expressed his determination to maintain his momentum after his involvement in Spain's recent World Cup triumph.

Levante End Betis' Perfect Start

Real Betis' perfect beginning to the season came to an emphatic end as Levante secured a 5-2 victory in Valencia. Roger Brugué scored twice as the hosts claimed their first win of the campaign.

Adrián de la Fuente gave Levante the lead in the 24th minute before former Barcelona defender Marc Bartra levelled for Betis with a powerful strike.

Enzo Bardeli restored Levante's advantage in stoppage time before Betis again drew level through Rodrigo Riquelme.

The second half belonged to Levante, with Brugué scoring twice and Jon Ander Olasagasti adding another goal to complete a memorable victory.

Betis had been aiming for a third consecutive league win after finishing fifth last season and securing a long-awaited return to the Champions League, but Levante's attacking display ended that perfect run.

Real Sociedad Claim First Points

Real Sociedad also recorded their first points of the campaign with a 2-1 home victory over Espanyol.

Ander Barrenetxea put the hosts ahead early, but Roberto Fernández restored parity just before half-time. Orri Óskarsson then struck shortly after the hour mark to secure the victory for Real Sociedad.

The result gives Real Sociedad their first win of the season after two opening defeats, while Espanyol suffered their second loss in three matches.
