Arteta Urges Arsenal to Sign Elite Talent After Trophyless Season

Posted : 23 May 2025

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted the club must strengthen its squad by targeting top-tier players in the transfer market, especially to address a lack of attacking depth. Injuries to key forwards like Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Jesus have significantly hampered Arsenal's ability to challenge for trophies this season, leaving the team without silverware for a fifth year in a row.

With the Gunners set to close out their campaign against relegated Southampton, Arteta emphasized that success requires having the best talent available, pointing to ongoing transfer speculation around strikers like Rodrygo, Alexander Isak, and Viktor Gyokeres.

Arteta highlighted the importance of bolstering the attack to ensure Arsenal can compete at the highest level, noting that the team cannot rely solely on current squad members given their recent injury setbacks. He called for reinforcements in both goal-scoring and creative positions to maintain competitiveness in domestic and European competitions.

While he refrained from naming specific targets, Arteta expressed pride in Arsenal’s progress, underlining that the club is now expected to contend for major trophies and is recognized among Europe's elite teams.

Additionally, Arteta addressed the future of veteran midfielder Thomas Partey, whose contract expires soon. He praised Partey’s consistent performances throughout the season and stated his desire to retain the Ghanaian, despite interest from Atletico Madrid.

Arteta also took a moment to acknowledge Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League victory, congratulating them on ending a long trophy drought and recognizing the resilience required to achieve such a feat.
