Arteta Sets Ambitious Goals for Arsenal Ahead of PSG Clash

Posted : 29 April 2025

Arsenal's coach Mikel Arteta expressed his team's aspirations to go beyond the Champions League semifinals, ahead of their first leg against Paris Saint-Germain. The Gunners are aiming to make their mark on European football, fueled by their impressive quarterfinal victory over Real Madrid, who they defeated 5-1 on aggregate. Arteta acknowledged the obstacles the team has overcome this season and emphasized that being one of the final four teams in Europe reflects their determination and mindset.

This marks Arsenal's third semifinal appearance in the Champions League and their first since 2009 when they faced Manchester United. Arteta revealed that the players are highly motivated, feeling confident they can compete with the best and potentially surpass them.

The team's strong performances throughout the competition have given them a sense of belief, and Arteta noted that his players were eager to take on PSG, expressing their readiness to play the upcoming match with enthusiasm.

Despite a more than two-month unbeaten streak across all competitions, Arsenal faces challenges as they prepare for the PSG clash. Midfielder Thomas Partey will miss the game due to suspension, and defender Riccardo Calafiori remains injured.

However, there is hope that Ben White and Mikel Merino, both of whom have trained ahead of the match, could return to the starting lineup. Arteta also reflected on their recent victory over PSG in the league phase, where Arsenal claimed a 2-0 win and displayed the same intensity and belief that has propelled them this far.

Though Arteta acknowledged that Arsenal's history doesn’t place them as the favorite to win the Champions League, he remains hopeful. He pointed out that if people are beginning to believe in the team's potential, it is because of the performances they have delivered against top-tier opposition. Arteta's focus remains on the present, with the team’s belief in their ability to go further in the competition driving their ambition for success.
