Arsenal crowned Premier League champions after Manchester City slip at Bournemouth

Posted : 20 May 2026

Arsenal were officially crowned Premier League champions on Tuesday after Manchester City’s 1-1 draw against Bournemouth confirmed the end of the title race. The result sparked huge celebrations among Arsenal supporters and players, marking the club’s first English league title in 22 years.

Mikel Arteta’s side had moved within touching distance of the trophy following a narrow victory over Burnley, opening a five-point gap over City with only one game remaining. After finishing runners-up in each of the previous three seasons, Arsenal finally completed their long-awaited return to the top of English football.

The title triumph represents Arsenal’s 14th top-flight crown and their first since Arsène Wenger guided the famous “Invincibles” team to glory in 2004. The Gunners responded strongly after a recent defeat to Manchester City, winning four consecutive league matches without conceding a goal to maintain control of the race.

Manchester City needed a victory at Bournemouth to keep their hopes alive, but their challenge faded after a disappointing performance at the Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth took the lead through teenager Eli Junior Kroupi, whose goal added another milestone to an impressive debut Premier League campaign.

Erling Haaland eventually scored a late equaliser for City in stoppage time, but it proved insufficient to prevent Arsenal from securing the title. Bournemouth’s point also extended their unbeaten league run and guaranteed European football for the first time in the club’s history.

The result added further uncertainty around Pep Guardiola’s future after recent reports suggested the City manager could leave the club at the end of the season. Guardiola congratulated Arsenal after the match, praising Arteta, the players and supporters for their achievement.

Scenes of celebration erupted around the Emirates Stadium, with supporters gathering outside the ground as players watched the decisive match together at the club’s training base. Arsenal will officially lift the Premier League trophy following their final game of the season against Crystal Palace.

Arteta’s side could still complete a historic campaign as they prepare for a Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain later this month.
