Arsenal Target Julian Alvarez as Summer Transfer Market Heats Up

Posted : 13 July 2026

The summer transfer window is gathering momentum, with Arsenal reportedly stepping up their pursuit of Atlético Madrid and Argentina forward Julián Alvarez. The Gunners are keen to complete a deal before the start of pre-season as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new campaign. Reports suggest Arsenal's interest has intensified, although Atlético Madrid remain reluctant to part with one of their key players.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa are on the verge of hijacking Newcastle United's proposed move for Johan Manzambi. The highly rated 20-year-old Swiss midfielder had appeared destined for St James' Park, but Villa have accelerated negotiations and are now expected to secure his signature following Amadou Onana's long-term injury.

In Italy, former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has emerged as one of the leading candidates to become the next head coach of the Italian national team. The development follows the appointment of Paolo Maldini as the Italian Football Federation's technical director, with Guardiola reportedly among the names under consideration.

Bayern Munich are also working to secure the future of Harry Kane, with the Bundesliga champions optimistic of agreeing a new long-term contract despite continued interest from several European heavyweights, including Real Madrid.

Several Premier League clubs remain interested in Tarik Muharemovic, with Newcastle United, Sunderland, Leeds United and Bournemouth all monitoring the Sassuolo and Bosnia-Herzegovina centre-back. Chelsea, meanwhile, are considering a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton after Liverpool and Manchester United reportedly cooled their interest.

Roma are also active in the market, with the Serie A side said to be targeting Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho while also monitoring Strasbourg's Diego Moreira. Celtic, meanwhile, are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek following his impressive loan spell at Bristol City last season.

Atalanta have opened talks with Brazilian midfielder Ederson over a contract extension after his proposed move to Manchester United collapsed, although Newcastle continue to monitor the situation. Sunderland are also hoping to sign Roma winger Matías Soulé, while Newcastle are exploring a move for Parma and Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki as they search for a new first-choice shot-stopper.

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also reportedly interested in Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush, adding another intriguing storyline to what is already shaping up to be a busy transfer window across Europe.
