Arsenal’s Premier League title ambitions suffered a significant setback after they were beaten 2-1 by Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium, with Alex Scott scoring the decisive second-half goal.
The result denied Arsenal the opportunity to move 12 points clear at the top of the table before second-placed Manchester City face Chelsea on Sunday. Although Mikel Arteta had urged fans to create a strong atmosphere for a crucial fixture, it was Bournemouth who started brighter and played with greater composure in the opening stages.
The visitors struck first when Junior Kroupi converted from close range after Adrien Truffert’s deflected cross caused chaos inside the Arsenal penalty area. Arsenal responded well and managed to level the score when Viktor Gyökeres confidently converted a penalty after Ryan Christie was penalised for a handball while attempting to block a shot.
Despite the equaliser, the match remained tense, and Arsenal struggled to fully assert control. Arteta introduced attacking options including Eberechi Eze, Leandro Trossard, and 16-year-old Max Dowman in an attempt to change the flow of the game.
However, Bournemouth produced the decisive moment late in the match. Alex Scott latched onto a clever flick from Evanilson at the edge of the box before calmly finishing past David Raya, silencing the home crowd and securing all three points for the visitors.
The victory extended Bournemouth’s impressive unbeaten league run to 12 matches and left Arsenal visibly frustrated. While the Gunners remain at the top of the table, they have now played two more matches than Manchester City, who remain firmly in the title race.
Arsenal also face a crucial upcoming trip to Manchester to take on Pep Guardiola’s side, a fixture that could have major implications for the destination of the Premier League title.
