Martin Ødegaard has called on Arsenal to "stick together" as they face a crucial Champions League semifinal clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday. Despite trailing 1-0 from the first leg, following Ousmane Dembélé's goal at the Emirates, Ødegaard remains confident that the Gunners can overcome the French champions and reach their second-ever Champions League final.
Arsenal's task is particularly daunting, as PSG has already eliminated Liverpool and Aston Villa in the tournament this season. Arsenal's preparations for the second leg were further disrupted by a 2-1 defeat at home to Bournemouth in the Premier League. Manager Mikel Arteta described the team as full of "rage and anger" after their disappointing performances, including the first leg against PSG.
However, captain Ødegaard believes these emotions can be harnessed to inspire a strong performance in Paris, urging his teammates to move past their frustrations and focus on the decisive match ahead. Arteta's lineup choices have also come under scrutiny, with only two changes made in the loss to Bournemouth, leaving some of Arsenal’s key players at risk of injury.
Jurrien Timber and Mikel Merino were the only two players not to feature in that match, and Arteta has revealed that Timber will undergo a fitness test before the PSG game to determine his availability. Despite the setbacks, Arsenal is determined to turn things around and put in a “massive performance” in the upcoming clash.
While Arsenal still have to secure two more wins in their final three league games to guarantee next season’s Champions League qualification, their focus is squarely on the current tournament. After finishing as Premier League runners-up to Manchester City in the past two seasons, Arsenal's failure to secure a first league title since 2004 continues to weigh heavily.
Having eliminated Real Madrid in the quarterfinals with a remarkable 5-1 aggregate win, Arsenal now hopes to channel their quality into a long-awaited trophy.
