Arne Slot Hails Liverpool’s Premier League Triumph Without Excuses

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed his satisfaction at winning the Premier League title in his debut season, noting that doing so removed the need for excuses often used by unsuccessful teams. Slot reflected on the various challenges faced during the campaign, such as limited spending and the pressure of succeeding Jurgen Klopp, but emphasized that triumph despite adversity makes the achievement even more meaningful.

 

He highlighted that winning without major new signings added a special significance to the club’s 20th top-flight title. Drawing parallels to his previous success at Feyenoord, where he clinched the Eredivisie despite rebuilding the squad, Slot pointed out that he has now won league titles in two different countries under very different circumstances.

 

In contrast to comments made by Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and Manchester City's Pep Guardiola, who cited injuries and red cards as factors in their teams' performances, Slot suggested that focusing on results rather than reasons for failure is key to championship success. He firmly disagreed with the notion that winning the league is a matter of luck or timing, instead emphasizing preparation and resilience.

 

In a comprehensive interview ahead of Liverpool’s final match against Crystal Palace, Slot also addressed several other topics. He voiced support for Trent Alexander-Arnold, hoping the defender receives a respectful farewell amid his expected departure.

 

Slot also fondly recalled the title celebration parade and dismissed any concerns over earlier contract uncertainties involving Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. Looking ahead, he acknowledged the need to strengthen the squad during the summer, though he conceded that the club might face limitations in acquiring their preferred targets.
