Antoine Semenyo Shines as Manchester City Crush Liverpool

Posted : 06 April 2026

Ghanaian winger Antoine Semenyo played a key part at the weekend, scoring City’s third in a dominant FA Cup quarter‑final victory. The 26‑year‑old has continued his strong form since his January move, contributing significantly with goals and energy as City progressed to the semifinals, where they will face Southampton.

Semenyo’s finish came early in the second half as he capitalised on a well‑timed pass and lifted the ball over the Liverpool goalkeeper to make it 3‑0, underscoring his growing influence in Pep Guardiola’s side.

For Liverpool, the match was a painful outing, not least because Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah missed a penalty during a heavy defeat that has intensified criticism around the team’s morale and recent performances.

The 4‑0 loss knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup and deepened scrutiny on their defensive frailties and overall fighting spirit as they head toward other challenges this season.

In La Liga action, Celta Vigo completed a spirited comeback to beat Valencia 3‑2 on the road. Ilaix Moriba opened Celta’s scoring early in the second half, sparking a turnaround that saw his teammates add further goals to secure all three points in a lively contest at the Mestalla Stadium.

Elsewhere in Europe, several players made headlines for their contributions. In Germany’s Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen enjoyed a high‑scoring 6‑3 win over Wolfsburg, with defender Edmond Tapsoba and midfielder Ibrahim Maza both getting on the scoresheet as the hosts overturned an early deficit.

In France, Zimbabwean midfielder Marshall Munetsi struck a late equaliser for Paris FC in a 1‑1 Ligue 1 draw with Lorient, highlighting the impact of African talent across major European leagues this weekend.

These performances reflect not only individual quality but also how players are shaping results for their clubs at key moments in the season.
