Andy Robertson Relishes Historic World Cup Selection with Scotland Squad

Posted : 05 June 2026

Scotland captain Andy Robertson admitted he experienced a major surreal moment upon the formal confirmation of his place in the national team roster. Head coach Steve Clarke finalized his 26-man squad ahead of the upcoming prestigious global tournament in North America. The contingent has traveled to the United States to mark the country's historic return to the world stage. It represents Scotland's first qualification for the tournament since 1998.

The veteran defender confessed that he avoids anticipating future scenarios during intense career moments; however, he acknowledged the immense significance of leading his nation into this campaign. The team traveled out of Glasgow Airport following a morale-boosting 4-1 friendly victory against Curacao at Hampden Park. The left-back shared a poignant reflective message in a private chat with his childhood friends. He expressed amazement that they successfully transitioned from youth football to the biggest international platform together.

The squad is scheduled to complete their final tournament preparations on Saturday evening. They will face Bolivia in an international friendly match at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey. Following this warmup fixture, the team will transition to their tournament base in North Carolina to prepare for competitive action.

The Tartan Army will initiate their Group C campaign against Haiti on June 14 at the Gillette Stadium in Boston. They will subsequently play Morocco at the same venue before concluding the group stage against Brazil in Miami.

The roster blends veteran experience with youthful energy. Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon enters the tournament as the oldest member of the squad at 43 years of age. Conversely, teenage midfielder Tyler Fletcher earned a dramatic call-up to the senior team. The Manchester United youngster secured his spot following a late knee injury to Billy Gilmour during the preparatory match against Curacao.

Robertson emphasized that the shared hardships of the past decade forged a tight-knit team bond. The group remains determined to build on their qualifying momentum following a dramatic campaign that saw them seal progression over Denmark.
