Ancelotti Warns Vinicius Jr: Only Fully Fit Players Will Make Brazil’s World Cup Squad

Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has made it clear that Vinicius Jr will only be selected for the 2026 World Cup if he is in peak physical condition, reaffirming his strict policy of calling up players who are fully match-ready.

Ancelotti issued a similar reminder to Neymar back in October, stressing that the Santos forward would need to be completely fit before returning to the national team setup. Speaking on the Brazilian sports programme Esporte Record, the Italian coach emphasised that the rule applies to every member of the squad.

“There are many high-quality players, and I must choose those who are at 100 per cent,” Ancelotti explained. “It’s not only about Neymar; it could also be Vinicius. If Vinicius is at 90 per cent, I will select another player who is fully fit. This team has an extremely high level of competition, especially in attack, where we have many excellent players.”

Vinicius Jr scored the decisive goal in Brazil’s 1-0 win over Paraguay in June, a result that secured their qualification for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place from June 11 to July 19 across North America. The Seleção are scheduled to face France in a warm-up match in Boston during the international window between March 23 and 31.
