Alexander Isak Says Liverpool Move Was an “Easy Decision”

Alexander Isak has revealed that joining Liverpool from Newcastle United was an “easy decision”, despite the difficult start he experienced after completing his British-record transfer last year. The Sweden striker moved to Anfield for £125 million on deadline day in September 2025.

Isak said Liverpool’s stature, ambition and determination to sign him were major factors behind his decision to leave Newcastle. He explained that everything surrounding the club made the move feel like the right opportunity.

The transfer followed a complicated final period at Newcastle, where Isak spent part of pre-season training away from the first-team group at former club Real Sociedad while his future was uncertain. Liverpool eventually completed the deal after Newcastle agreed to the record fee.

His first campaign on Merseyside was disrupted by injuries and a lengthy spell on the sidelines. A fractured leg kept him out for several months, limiting him to 22 appearances and 1,032 minutes during the season. He scored three Premier League goals before returning toward the end of the campaign.

Despite those difficulties, Isak insists he never regretted choosing Liverpool. He said his approach was to concentrate on recovering, enjoying football again and looking forward rather than dwelling on the setbacks.

The 26-year-old has made a much stronger start to the current campaign. He has already matched his previous season's Premier League goal tally after only four matches, providing an early indication of his improved rhythm and fitness.

Isak also benefited from his participation in the World Cup with Sweden during the summer. After playing limited football for Liverpool because of injury, the tournament gave him valuable minutes and an opportunity to rebuild his match fitness and confidence.

He scored once and supplied three assists for Sweden before their campaign ended with a last-32 defeat by France. Isak described representing his country at the World Cup as a major personal achievement and said the tournament came at an important stage of his recovery.

Now back with Liverpool, Isak is focused on maintaining his fitness and contributing more consistently. His early-season form has given him an opportunity to put the frustrations of his first year at Anfield behind him and establish himself as a key attacking figure.
