Akwanga All Stars FC Clinch Inaugural North Central Zonal All Stars Tournament

Akwanga All Stars FC of Nasarawa State emerged champions of the maiden North Central Zonal All Stars Football Tournament after a thrilling 4-3 penalty shootout victory over Kuje Veterans FC of Abuja. The regulation time had ended 1-1, with Captain Hassan Dogara ‘Roma’ scoring for Akwanga and Mustapha Para netting for Kuje Veterans, setting the stage for a tense shootout.

 

The final, played at Rishama College Football Field in Akwanga, drew a packed crowd, including dignitaries and traditional rulers. Kuje Veterans missed two of their five spot-kicks, while Akwanga All Stars converted four, with substitute Henry Patrick scoring the decisive penalty to secure the title for the hosts.

 

The championship medals and trophy were presented by the Executive Chairman of Toto Local Government Area, Pharm. Yayaha Baba-Ahmed, alongside the Abaga Toni of Garaku, His Royal Highness Lawrence Ayih II. Both commended the organizers for hosting a successful inaugural tournament and praised the teams for their sportsmanship and commitment. The Abaga Toni personally donated ₦200,000 to support the event.

 

Individual awards were also presented. Hassan Dogara of Akwanga All Stars finished as the tournament’s highest goalscorer with two goals, while his teammate Obadiah Alaku Namo earned the Golden Gloves award for conceding only once. Omoh Yamah ‘Tormentor’ of Pro Leisure FC of Jos was named Most Valuable Player, and Adamu Jibril of Kuje Veterans received the Coach of the Tournament award.

 

In the third-place play-off, Pro Leisure FC of Jos defeated Makurdi All Stars FC of Gaadi, Benue State, 2-0. Certificates of participation were distributed to all teams, and medals were presented to attending dignitaries, capping off a successful and historic tournament.
