Akwa United FC on Sunday managed to postpone the inevitable, posting a combative 2-0 win over the visiting Bayelsa United FC.
The 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season is a must-win for the Promise Keepers, and they delivered a commanding performance to extend their lifeline until the last day of NPFL Match Day 38. This will ultimately be a decider, as three teams are still at risk of relegation after Sunshine Stars was officially relegated, following in the footsteps of Lobi Stars.
The Promise Keepers, Akwa United, showed they still had something left in the tank with a five-star performance.
Goals from Endurance Ebedebiri (22’ PEN) and Kabir Osoba (90+’) helped the Kennedy Boboye-led team remain afloat in the league.
The Promise Keepers will have to wait until May 28 to know their fate, with a crucial fight ahead against another relegation-threatened side, Heartland International FC, who are just one point above them, sitting in 17th position, while Akwa United are in 18th position.
