Akwa United Edges Solution FC 2-1 in Intense NNL Conference B Season Finale

Akwa United concluded their 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Solution FC. The Matchday 18 encounter took place at the Awka City Stadium on Friday. While the visitors claimed all three points, the result was not enough to secure promotion to the top flight.

The first half of the match was a tactical and cautious affair as both sides struggled to create clear scoring chances. Akwa United entered the game knowing they needed a win and a slip-up from Sporting Lagos to finish top of Conference B. The tension was evident as the first forty-five minutes ended in a goalless stalemate.

The game shifted quickly in the second half when Akwa United found their attacking rhythm. Sunday Aniebiet broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute with a composed finish from inside the penalty area. Only three minutes later, Michael Okenwa doubled the lead with a powerful long-range strike that stunned the home supporters.

Solution FC refused to give up and responded almost immediately to the double setback. Substitute Chinemerem Okuani pulled a goal back in the 58th minute after capitalising on a defensive lapse. His close-range finish set up a frantic final thirty minutes as the hosts pushed forward in search of an equaliser.

Despite the sustained pressure from the "Solution Boys," the Akwa United defense remained disciplined and organized. The Promise Keepers successfully repelled several late crosses and set-piece opportunities to preserve their slim lead. The final whistle confirmed a 2-1 win for the visitors in a high-stakes atmosphere.

The victory brings Akwa United’s final points tally to 35 from 18 matches, leaving them just one point behind leaders Sporting Lagos. For Solution FC, the defeat marks a disappointing end to their season. They finish the Conference B campaign in sixth position with 25 points, missing out on the promotion race entirely.
