Akor Adams Aims for Super Eagles Recognition as Sevilla Chapter Begins

Posted : 01 July 2025

Nigerian striker Akor Adams is setting his sights on a senior national team debut as he embarks on a new journey with Spanish La Liga side Sevilla FC. The 24-year-old forward joined Sevilla from French Ligue 1 club Montpellier in January 2025 on a five-year deal reportedly worth €5.5 million.

Although injuries delayed his impact in the second half of the season, Adams is now back in full training and determined to make his mark at both club and international levels.

Adams arrived at Sevilla with high expectations following a productive spell in France and Norway. Known for his physical presence and eye for goal, he had previously scored 10 goals in 33 appearances for Montpellier and 23 goals in 38 matches for Norwegian side Lillestrøm.

However, muscle injuries shortly after his arrival in Spain limited his playing time and ruled him out of key fixtures during the 2024–25 campaign.

Despite his fitness setbacks, Adams was included in Nigeria's provisional squad for the March 2025 World Cup qualifiers. While he did not make the final list, the call-up served as encouragement.

“Making the provisional list for the national team was a huge motivation,” Adams said in a recent interview from Seville. “I know that with hard work and consistency, my time with the Super Eagles will come.”

Nigeria’s head coach and national team selectors are said to be keeping a close eye on his progress ahead of upcoming international windows.

Sevilla’s technical staff and management have reiterated their belief in Adams’ potential. Head coach García Pimienta confirmed the striker will not be sent out on loan and is part of the club’s plans for the new season.

“Akor has all the attributes of a top-level striker. Our priority is getting him back to full fitness so he can contribute meaningfully to the squad,” Pimienta stated.

Sporting Director Víctor Orta has also emphasized that the club is offering full support as Adams works toward regaining form.

With the 2025–26 season approaching, Adams is focused on securing regular playing time, delivering performances that justify Sevilla’s investment, and eventually earning his senior debut for Nigeria.

His journey in Spain may have started slowly, but the stage is set for Akor Adams to write a new chapter, one defined by goals, growth, and the green-and-white jersey he dreams of wearing.
