Lagos will host a reunion of African football greats on Sunday, Nov. 8, as former continental stars converge on the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, for the Legends Football Game.
The encounter will feature a star-studded African Legends squad against former Super Eagles stars, particularly members of Nigeria's celebrated 1994 and 1996 generations.
Leading the continental contingent are former African Footballer of the Year Emmanuel Adebayor, Senegalese great El-Hadji Diouf, Ivorian defender Didier Zokora and former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah.
Other prominent players expected to feature include Ghana's John Paintsil and Anthony Baffoe, Senegal's Khalilou Fadiga, Burkina Faso's Aristide Bancé, as well as Cameroonian duo Rigobert Song and Alexandre Song.
Zimbabwe will also be represented by Peter Ndlovu and Benjani Mwaruwari, while former South African goalkeeper Brian Baloyi completes the impressive list of confirmed participants.
The fixture is designed to celebrate Nigeria's remarkable achievements in African football, particularly the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations triumph and the historic gold medal success at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
It also offers football enthusiasts an opportunity to reconnect with some of the continent's most celebrated players, whose exploits helped raise Africa's profile on the global stage.
The event is being organised by Toptier Sports Management in partnership with Afreximbank and CANEX.
Chichi Nwoko, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Toptier Sports Management, said the initiative was designed to recognise the contributions of football icons to the development of the game.
“These are names that every football fan in Africa knows. We are proud to bring them to Lagos to honour the heroes of 1994 and 1996,” she said.
Organisers expect a strong turnout of football enthusiasts, with stadium gates scheduled to open at 1:30 p.m.
The Lagos gathering is expected to offer a nostalgic celebration of African football, bringing together generations of supporters to relive the achievements and memorable moments of some of the continent's finest players.
