AFH Pre-season Tourney: Eko United, Ebedei Shine

Posted : 16 October 2026

Eko United and FC Ebedei opened their campaigns with victories as the inaugural African Football Holding (AFH) Pre-season Tournament kicked off in Sagamu, with Obinna Otu stealing the spotlight with a brace.

While Eko United secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Grassrunners JNR, FC Ebedei defeated Sunshine Stars 2-1 in a thrilling encounter that highlighted Otu’s attacking quality.

Eko United took the lead in the eighth minute through Olalere Dauda, who capitalised on an opportunity to put his side ahead against the run of play.

Their advantage doubled when Grassrunners JNR defender Agada Solomon turned the ball into his own net while attempting a clearance under pressure.

Grassrunners improved after the break, matching their opponents in an evenly contested second half, but goalkeeper Labode Nicolas’ impressive saves could not prevent defeat.

At the other end, FC Ebedei produced one of the opening day’s standout performances, with Otu delivering two first-half goals to put the Oliseh Boys in control against Sunshine Stars.

Otu opened the scoring in the 22nd minute after combining effectively with Muritala Quadri, who later supplied the assist for the striker’s second goal.

The forward completed his brace with a superb finish into the top corner, extending Ebedei’s lead to 2-0 after just over 18 minutes of action between his two goals.

Sunshine Stars responded through Udeme Sunday, whose strike reduced the deficit, but Ebedei held on to secure a valuable opening-day victory.

The result placed Otu among the early contenders for the tournament’s leading scorer award, following his impressive two-goal contribution.

Attention now shifts to Friday’s Group B fixtures, with FC Ebedei Sports College scheduled to face Grassrunners FC at 9 a.m.

Crown FC will also take on Ikorodu City FA as the teams continue their quest for progression in the pre-season competition.
