AFCON 2025: Quarterfinal Ticket Brings Super Eagles ₦2 Billion Boost

Posted : 06 January 2026

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have received a significant financial boost at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, banking nearly ₦2 billion after securing a place in the quarter-finals.

The emphatic victory over Mozambique’s Black Mambas not only extended Nigeria’s stay in the tournament but also guaranteed the team $1.3 million in prize money from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), equivalent to roughly ₦2 billion at the current exchange rate.

CAF confirmed the revised prize structure on its official website, highlighting the increased financial incentives for each stage of the competition. Under the new framework, the champions will take home $7 million, the runners-up $4 million, and the two losing semifinalists $2.5 million each. All quarterfinalists, including Nigeria, are assured $1.3 million.

In addition to the base prize money, the Super Eagles earned performance-based bonuses following their dominant round-of-16 performance. With four goals scored against Mozambique, the team collected an extra $40,000—$10,000 per goal. Victor Osimhen led the scoring with a brace, while Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams also found the net, highlighting Nigeria’s attacking prowess and financial gains.

With momentum growing both on and off the pitch, the Super Eagles now shift focus to securing a semifinal berth, fully aware that each step closer to the final offers both continental glory and even greater financial rewards.
