Afase FC Edge Ramsaky to Win Kwara All Stars Title

Posted : 13 October 2026

Afase FC emerged champions of the 2026 Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq All Stars Unity Football Competition after defeating Ramsaky FC 4-2 on penalties following a goalless draw at regulation time.

The final, played at the Golden Pitch of the Kwara Football Academy, attracted a large crowd of football enthusiasts who watched former stars showcase their skills in an atmosphere of camaraderie and entertainment.

Led by Alhaji Salihu Babatunde Afase, the champions held their nerve in the penalty shootout to claim the title in a competition designed to promote unity, friendship, and physical fitness among former footballers.

The tournament featured four teams — Afase FC, Ramsaky FC, Fullmoon FC, and MD FC — competing in a round-robin format.

Sponsored by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who also chairs the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, the competition provided an opportunity for former players to reconnect through football while inspiring younger generations.

One of the standout moments of the final was the performance of Alhaji Babatunde Salihu, who wore the iconic jersey number 999.

His entertaining display of dribbling skills, including a sequence in which he appeared to outmanoeuvre himself and the referee, drew admiration from spectators and added humour to the occasion.

The event also featured the Special Guest of Honour, Governor AbdulRazaq, who was represented by the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, BolaKale Adisa Mogaji.

Mogaji commended the participating teams for using football to foster unity and togetherness, noting that their commitment could serve as encouragement to younger players.

He stressed that the significance of the competition extended beyond the final result, declaring that there were no losers because the event's central purpose was to strengthen relationships and promote healthy living.

The governor's representative also pledged that the competition would be sustained.

Similarly, Chairman of the Kwara State All Stars Family, Hameed Idrees, popularly known as SMO, praised the teams for their participation and contribution to the tournament's unifying objectives.

Idrees expressed optimism that the next edition would offer an even more exciting experience for players, supporters, and other stakeholders.

Beyond Afase FC's penalty shootout victory, the competition reinforced the role of recreational football in promoting friendship, fitness, and lasting bonds among former players.
