AEK Athens have reportedly entered discussions with Rangers regarding a potential transfer of Super Eagles forward Cyriel Dessers, as Greek media outlets reveal the Greek Super League heavyweights have approached the Scottish club.
The 30‑year‑old striker—who joined Rangers from Cremonese in 2023 for approximately £4.5 million—was last season’s top scorer for the club, netting 19 times in the Premiership and 29 across all competitions. Despite his goal tally, Dessers remains a polarizing figure among the Rangers fan base.
AEK is believed to value Dessers as a key addition this summer, aiming to strengthen their frontline. Meanwhile, Rangers are reportedly seeking a minimum of £5 million, intending to recoup their initial outlay and turn a modest profit.
The player still has two years remaining on his current contract, giving Rangers leverage in the negotiations. With financial figures and terms under discussion, interest from other clubs, including sides in Saudi Arabia, may emerge if a deal progresses.
Manager Russell Martin is currently reshaping Rangers’ squad, and Dessers’s departure could open opportunities for new signings and attacking reinforcements.
As talks continue between the clubs, attention now turns to whether AEK Athens can meet Rangers’ valuation and provide Dessers a compelling reason to leave Glasgow ahead of next season.
