Adeleke Wins Golden Boot as Zongo Claims MVP Award at WAFU B U-20 Championship

Flying Eagles forward Abdulmuiz Adeleke has won the Golden Boot at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship after finishing the tournament with five goals. The Nigerian striker was one of the standout attackers as the regional competition concluded in Côte d’Ivoire.

Adeleke made a fast start to the tournament by scoring twice in Nigeria’s 4-2 victory over Ghana in their opening Group B fixture. He converted a penalty before adding his second goal late in the match to complete the win for Abdu Maikaba’s side.

The Sporting Supreme forward also scored against Togo during the group stage. His goals helped Nigeria maintain their challenge for another regional title and strengthened his reputation as one of the leading young attacking talents in the competition.

Adeleke had entered the tournament in good form after impressing during Nigeria’s preparations in Abuja. He scored four goals in three warm-up matches and emerged as one of the key players in Maikaba’s plans for the championship.

The teenager was included in Nigeria’s 23-man squad after being identified as a major attacking prospect. The NFF squad list confirmed Adeleke as one of the forwards selected for the tournament alongside Abdullahi Ele, Gift Subi and Aminu Yusuf.

While Adeleke took the scoring prize, Burkina Faso claimed the other major individual honours. Mohamed Zongo was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after playing a key role in the Young Stallions’ campaign.

Zongo had already made an impact early in the competition when he scored in the second minute of Burkina Faso’s 3-1 victory over Togo. Sévérin Komi and Narcisse Abdoul Ouédraogo added the other goals as Burkina Faso began their campaign with three points.

Burkina Faso goalkeeper Rahim Ouattara also received the Golden Glove award for his performances during the tournament. His recognition completed a strong showing for the Young Stallions in the individual awards.

For Adeleke, the Golden Boot provides another significant achievement at youth international level. His five-goal haul also highlights his growing importance to Nigeria's youth setup as the Flying Eagles continue their push towards the continental stage.
