Abia Warriors sink Gombe United in Umuahia

Abia Warriors compounded the woes of struggling Gombe United as they scored three goals past the hapless Jewels of the Savannah on Match Day 16 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at Umuahia Township Stadium.


The win helped Abia Warriors leap to the 8th position after the 3-1 mauling of visiting Gombe United.


A first-half brace by Samson Obi, plus a third from Paschal Nwabueze, inflicted the defeat on Gombe United FC, who obtained a consolation goal in the 48th minute from David Nnaji.


The first goal came in the 22nd minute of play for Abia Warriors as Samson Obi scored from the middle of the park with a pass from Wotlai Daniel to Onu Emmanuel. Onu laid a beautiful pass to the path of Samson, who finished well by slotting the ball into the net.


Upon resumption in the second half, Samson Obi completed his brace in the 46th minute, with Captain Njoku Augustine assisting.


The visitors got their consolation goal just a minute after the 3-0 lead in the 47th minute through David Nnaji.
