After suffering their first home defeat of the season last weekend against Nasarawa United at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia is determined to get back to winning ways as they host Wikki Tourists of Bauchi in the Match Day 23 fixture of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
That loss came as a rude shock to Warriors fans and followers of the Nigerian league, but Umu Chineke said they have put that behind them and are now focused on redeeming their image against the visiting Tourists from Bauchi in what will be their second consecutive home game.
The Warriors' Technical Adviser, Imama Amapakabo, during his post-match presser last Sunday, stated that the game against Nasarawa United was done and dusted, and they will now look to get the job done on Wednesday.
The body language of the players mirrored the gaffer’s stance, as they exuded confidence during training. They soaked up the tactical drills, clearly buying into the gaffer’s game plan.
Meanwhile, their opponents, Wikki Tourists, will unleash fire, fueled by desperation to survive, as they find themselves two points above the relegation zone, having only secured one win in their last nine Premier League games.
For sure, they will be encouraged by their 1-0 victory over the Warriors in the reverse league fixture, and the hosts should expect a fierce fight from the Giant Elephant.
Despite the Tourists' threat, the Warriors are unfazed by Sunday's defeat and will surely make a statement of intent by clamping down on the Giant Elephant, whose attack may likely be led by speedy Taheer Abubakar, who joined them from Abia Warriors a few weeks ago.
The Umuahia Warlords have averaged 0.86 goals scored per game and 0.64 goals conceded, whereas the Giant Elephant has averaged 0.73 goals scored and 0.86 goals conceded.
After 22 games played, the Warriors are in 3rd position on the league table with 37 points, while the Giant Elephant is occupying 14th position with 26 points.
