2026/2027 Euro-Match NPFL Matchday 4: Abia Warriors Eye Turnaround Against Sporting Lagos

Abia Warriors will be hoping to turn their promising away record from last season into a source of inspiration when they visit Sporting Lagos in a Matchday Four encounter of the 2026/27 Euro-Match Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday.

The Umu Chineke have endured a difficult start to the campaign, collecting just two points from their first three matches after recording two draws at home and suffering an away defeat.

The results have left Abia Warriors 16th on the table, increasing the need for a positive result as the league enters its fourth round of fixtures.

Their task, however, will not be straightforward against Sporting Lagos, who will welcome the visitors to the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan with renewed confidence.

The Tech Boys have three points from two matches, having responded to a 2-0 defeat by Doma United in Gombe with a convincing 3-0 victory over city rivals Inter Lagos.

Sporting Lagos will also draw confidence from their previous meetings with Abia Warriors, having won one and drawn one of their two NPFL encounters.

For Abia Warriors, Sunday's fixture presents an opportunity to improve that record while ending their wait for a first victory of the season.

Their failure to defeat Ikorodu City in their previous home outing further underlined the need for improvement, with the team expected to produce a stronger performance in Lagos.

Abia Warriors will, however, look to their performances away from home last season, when they demonstrated considerable resilience and regularly competed effectively on difficult grounds.

Sporting Lagos, meanwhile, will be aiming to build on their derby victory and establish greater consistency as they seek to climb from 11th position.

With both sides needing points for different reasons, Sunday's encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena promises to be a closely contested battle, with Abia Warriors seeking to rediscover the resilience that characterised their away performances last season.
