Casmir Azubuike's 29th-minute speculative delivery secured the maximum points for Abia Warriors against Kwara United in the Matchday 27 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League, decided at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
The victory effectively ended Abia Warriors' five-game winless streak and was their first home win in about four matches since beating Warri Wolves 1-0 at the Umuahia Township Stadium on December 21, 2025.
The Warriors' gaffer, Imama Amapakabo, made only one change to the squad that drew against Remo Stars in Abeokuta in their last game, with Kunle Adeleke taking the place of Somiari Alalibo, who missed the game as a result of accumulated yellow cards.
It was a slow start to the game by the Warriors, but they gradually got into the groove as they pinned Kwara United to their own half.
The deadlock was, however, broken in the 29th minute as Casmir Azubuike's attempted cross evaded everyone, including the Kwara United goalkeeper, Suraj Ayeleso, and found its way into the net for what proved to be the match-winner.
The visitors came out smoking in the second half as they enjoyed most of the possession, especially in the closing stages, but they failed to get past the defensive quartet of Jibrin Faiz, Kunle Adeleke, Innocent Gabriel, and the skipper of the day, Emmanuel Ogbuagu.
On the other hand, the hosts failed to take the numerous chances that came their way, with Chukwuemeka Obioma, Valentine Ugwu, Suraj Lawal, and Casmir Azubuike getting close.
Up next for Abia Warriors is an away tie against El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri on Sunday, 1st March 2026.
