Abia Warriors Forced to a One-All Draw by Remo Stars

Posted : 16 February 2026

Abia Warriors were forced to a 1-1 draw by league defending champions, Remo Stars Football Club of Ikenne, in a Matchday 26 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League decided at the Akure Township Stadium.

With two changes to the squad that drew against Rangers International FC in Aba, Valentine Ugwu and Innocent Godwin replaced Paul Samson and Kunle Adeleke respectively, and the visitors held off the hosts' threat in the first half.

The second half was an intriguing and entertaining affair as both sides searched for a breakthrough.

It finally came the way of the Warriors in the 55th minute as a long pass from Suraj Lawal from inside the visitors' box located Chukwuemeka Obioma, and the veteran striker held off his marker to score his 7th league goal of the season, putting the Warriors in front.

Ten minutes later, Obioma had the ball in the net again. From a swift counter, he zoomed into the hosts' vital area, and while everyone expected a cross from him, he shot at goal, wrong-footing the goalkeeper, Obaise Adebiyi, to score, only for the Assistant Referee to raise his flag for offside to the consternation of the spectators and the Warriors' bench.

Six minutes later, the Warriors had another goal chopped off for offside.

Another swift counter-attacking move from the Warriors had Obioma send a teasing pass to Valentine Ugwu to score from inside the hosts' box, and the Assistant Referee yet again flagged the goal offside, drawing protests from the spectators.

The hosts, however, were level in the 77th minute when Samson Olasupo scored from a rebound.

Valentine Ugwu could have capped his day with a goal in the 85th minute, but he fluffed his chance. And youngster Omoge Ebenezer also failed to do better with his play but went for glory instead on two separate occasions that would have seen the Warriors retake the lead.

Up next for Abia Warriors is a home tie against Kwara United FC at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
