Former Katsina United player Aliyu AbdulRazak has called on the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to recover his outstanding ₦3.2 million from the club, urging the league to consider sanctions similar to those applied in another unpaid player award.
AbdulRazak’s appeal follows the NPFL’s recent deduction of ₦4.5 million from Kano Pillars’ EuroMatch sponsorship entitlement to settle the outstanding balance of a ₦5 million award to Chukwuebuka Ogbonna.
The former Katsina United player said the Nigeria Football Federation’s Players Status and Arbitration Committee (PSAC) awarded him ₦7.2 million against the club on December 5, 2025.
He explained that Katsina United had paid ₦4 million, leaving ₦3.2 million unpaid despite the absence of an agreement permitting payment by instalments.
AbdulRazak also claimed that he had been waiting for the NPFL to request his bank details to facilitate the payment, but no contact had been made.
“I was waiting and waiting for the NPFL to call me to send my account number, but I am still waiting. If Ogbonna can be paid, I see no reason why I should not also be paid through a deduction from Katsina United’s sponsorship money,” he told Sportsbeat.
He questioned the apparent difference in the handling of the two cases, arguing that the delay in settling his award raised concerns about fairness in the enforcement of financial decisions.
“I cannot understand the delay. It seems like selective justice, possibly influenced by a powerful figure. I have followed the proper channels and have the judgement papers in my favour,” he said.
“I call on the NPFL to help do the right thing.”
The dispute has placed renewed focus on how football authorities enforce decisions requiring clubs to settle outstanding financial obligations to former players.
While the circumstances of the two cases may differ, AbdulRazak wants the NPFL to clarify the status of his award and explain what steps are being taken to recover the balance.
He is also demanding restrictions on Katsina United’s use of newly registered players until the outstanding debt is settled.
For AbdulRazak, the central issue is ensuring that a ruling obtained through the established dispute-resolution process translates into full payment.
The NPFL’s next steps could determine how his outstanding claim is addressed, although no decision on the requested sanctions has been established in the information available.
