Abdoulaye Doucoure Bids Emotional Farewell as Everton Exit Confirmed

Posted : 20 May 2025

Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires. The 32-year-old Malian, who joined the Toffees from Watford in a £20 million deal in September 2020, has made 165 appearances and scored 21 goals for the club.

Among his most memorable contributions was the crucial goal in the 1-0 win over Bournemouth on the final day of the 2022-23 season, a strike that ensured Everton's survival in the Premier League.

Doucoure joins several other players departing Goodison Park this summer, including veteran midfielder Ashley Young and goalkeepers Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia. Key figures such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Idrissa Gueye, Michael Keane, and Seamus Coleman also face uncertain futures with their contracts set to expire.

In a farewell message shared on social media, Doucoure expressed his deep gratitude to the club and supporters, describing his five years at Everton as a dream come true and an emotional journey filled with pride and dedication.

Reflecting on his time with the team, Doucoure singled out his goal against Bournemouth as the standout moment of his Everton career, saying it brought pride to both his family and the club. He emphasized the effort he put into every game and training session, noting the emotional farewell he experienced when he was substituted during Everton’s final home game at Goodison Park—a 2-0 win over Southampton.

As Everton prepares to transition to the Hill Dickinson Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, Doucoure shared his well-wishes for the club's future. He expressed sadness at leaving but maintained his support for the Toffees, declaring himself “forever a Blue.” With the team's last match of the season scheduled away at Newcastle, Doucoure leaves behind a legacy of resilience and commitment that resonated with fans throughout his time at the club.
