Abdallah Upbeat as Remo Stars Target Final Day Great Escape Against Bendel Insurance

Posted : 13 May 2026

Remo Stars head coach Usman Abdallah is confident his side will retain their top-flight status as they prepare for a high-stakes final day clash against Bendel Insurance. The Sky Blue Stars gave their survival hopes a major boost on Sunday by securing a 2-1 comeback victory over Bayelsa United in Ikenne. Early nerves gripped the home supporters when Ofem Nneoyi put the visitors ahead in the fifth minute. However, the defending champions responded through Alex Oyowah before captain Victor Mbaoma sealed the win.

The result officially condemned Bayelsa United and Wikki Tourists to relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League. Despite the three points, Remo Stars remain in a precarious position with 46 points from 37 games. They currently sit in 16th place, level on points with Warri Wolves and Enyimba. Abdallah’s men now face a daunting trip to Benin to face arch-rivals Bendel Insurance.

History and current form offer some encouragement for the Ikenne-based club heading into the final weekend. Abdallah highlighted his team’s recent away record as a source of strength for the upcoming battle. The coach noted that his players have scored in each of their last 11 matches on the road. He believes this attacking consistency will be the key to unlocking the Insurance defense.

The rivalry between both teams dates back to their time in the lower divisions. Bendel Insurance won the reverse fixture 3-2 in Ikenne earlier this season, adding more tension to the return leg. Abdallah insists his side will not play for a draw and will push for all three points. He stated that the team has worked hard to ensure they do not become the first champions to be relegated the following season.

The relegation battle remains one of the tightest in recent memory, with seven teams still at risk. A win for Remo Stars would guarantee their safety regardless of results elsewhere. Anything less could see them rely on the outcomes of matches involving Niger Tornadoes and Kwara United. Abdallah remains resolute, telling club media that his boys understand the gravity of the situation.
