Abakaliki FC Strengthens Coaching Staff in NPFL Promotion Push

Posted : 04 August 2026

Abakaliki FC have reinforced their technical department with the appointment of three experienced coaches and support staff as the club steps up preparations for the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

The Rice Boys, who are targeting promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), announced the appointments as part of efforts to build a strong backroom team capable of leading the club to top-flight football.

Former Super Eagles player Jude Agada, MON, has been named Assistant Coach. The Anambra-born tactician enjoyed a playing career with Rangers International FC, Udorji FC and the Super Eagles between 1987 and 1990. He also brings coaching experience from River Lane Academy FC, SKB FC and Coal City FC.

Also joining the technical crew as Assistant Coach is Idowu Anthony Paul, a former player of NEPA FC Lagos, Julius Berger FC Lagos and Ray Queens FC. The Lagos-born coach is expected to add depth and technical expertise to the team's coaching setup.

In addition, former Abakaliki FC captain Cyril Timothy has returned to the club as Trainer. Timothy, who spent two successful seasons with the Rice Boys and helped the club reach the President Federation Cup final against Kwara United, previously featured for Simba FC of Tanzania, Adamawa United FC and Delta Force FC.

The club believes the appointments will enhance the team's technical and physical preparation as it intensifies its quest to secure one of the coveted promotion tickets to the NPFL in the new season.

With an experienced technical team now in place, Abakaliki FC will be aiming to mount a strong challenge in the upcoming NNL campaign as they pursue their ambition of securing promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League.
