Enyimba International Football Club of Aba thrashed visiting Kano Pillars 5-0 in a Match Day 28 fixture of the ongoing 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Finidi George, coach of Enyimba International FC, expressed his satisfaction with his team's 5-star performance and expressed his wish for such results to continue in their upcoming matches.

"I think the tempo of the match dropped in the second half due to the scoreline, but we picked up towards the end of the match. Overall, it was a good outing. I am pleased with the victory because it's never easy playing against Kano Pillars. I believe we dominated the game from start to finish. We just need to focus on achieving good results away from home," he said.

George also praised Joseph Atule's recent scoring efforts in the league, stating that he is beginning to see the Atule the club bought to help convert scoring chances.

"In our next match against Lobi Stars, we hope to secure a respectable result. We are ready to battle any team in the remaining matches of the league," he added.

At Enyimba Stadium, Eze Ekwutoziam opened the scoring for the home team in the 14th minute, capitalizing on a rebound after Joseph Atule's shot was parried by the visiting team's goalkeeper.

Chijioke Mbaoma doubled the lead to 2-0 after receiving a pass from Ekwutoziam and beating two Kano Pillars defenders.

Atule scored his first goal with a powerful header from Ekene Awaziem's pass in the 44th minute.

In the 69th minute, Atule scored his second goal, dribbling past two defenders to make it 4-0.

Alade Balogun came off the bench to score the fifth goal in the 90th minute after receiving a pass from Chibueze Izuogu.

On the other hand, Kano Pillars' coach, Abdul Maikaba, described the match as difficult and attributed his team's performance to travel arrangements.

"We arrived in Aba at 2 a.m. on match day, which made it difficult for the players to cope with the tempo of the game. The vacant position of a State Commissioner for Youths and Sports affected our arrangements, but I hope the state government will appoint one soon," he said.

Despite the loss, Enyimba International FC moved to second position on the table with 48 points, while Kano Pillars remained seventh with 41 points after 28 matches.
