3SC, Rangers Arrive in Tunisia and Togo for Crucial CAF Second Legs

Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan and reigning NPFL champions Rangers International have arrived at their respective destinations ahead of crucial second-leg fixtures in the CAF inter-club competitions.

Shooting Stars travelled through Casablanca, Morocco, before continuing to Sfax, Tunisia. The Oluyole Warriors will face CS Sfaxien in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary-round tie on Sunday, September 13.

The Nigerian club holds a narrow advantage after defeating the Tunisian side 1-0 in the first leg. Shooting Stars therefore need to avoid defeat to progress to the next round.

The return fixture will be played at the Stade Taïeb Mhiri in Sfax. The stadium is CS Sfaxien's home ground and has a capacity of about 18,000 spectators.

The trip represents an important continental test for Shooting Stars. The Ibadan club will have to withstand strong home support while protecting the lead secured in Nigeria.

CS Sfaxien, meanwhile, will be determined to overturn the deficit. A one-goal victory would take the tie into the applicable CAF progression procedure, while any victory by two or more goals would send the Tunisian club through.

Rangers International have also arrived in Lomé, Togo, ahead of their CAF Champions League first preliminary-round second leg against AS Sobemap of Benin Republic.

The match is scheduled for Friday, September 11, at the Stade de Kégué. Kick-off is set for 2pm UTC, which is 3pm Nigerian time.

The first leg ended 1-1 in Abeokuta, leaving the tie completely open. Chidozie Iwundu scored for Rangers before Sobemap levelled after the break.

Rangers therefore need a positive result in Lomé to secure their place in the next round. A victory would guarantee qualification, while another 1-1 draw would leave the tie to the applicable CAF tiebreak procedure.

The Enugu club will draw confidence from its recent run. Rangers have avoided defeat in their last eight matches, according to current match data, although the first-leg draw showed that Sobemap remain a difficult opponent.

Both Nigerian clubs face demanding away assignments, but their first-leg results have kept their continental campaigns alive.

Rangers will be the first to take the field as they seek to advance in the Champions League. Shooting Stars will then attempt to protect their advantage in Sfax and continue their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
