The Lagos Island Zone of the 2026 1XCup got off to an exciting start on Friday as four entertaining matches produced 11 goals at the Inspire Sport Arena, highlighting the quality of grassroots football on display.

The opening day featured several impressive performances, with 36 Lion FC and G12 FC emerging among the standout teams after both claimed dramatic victories in high-scoring encounters.

36 Lion FC edged FC Middlewell 3-2 in one of the most exciting fixtures of the day. Both sides attacked with confidence and created several scoring opportunities, but 36 Lion showed greater composure in key moments to secure all three points.

G12 FC also celebrated a thrilling 3-2 victory over Goal Getters FC. The closely contested encounter produced end-to-end action, with G12 holding their nerve to claim victory after an entertaining battle that kept spectators engaged until the final whistle.

Earlier in the day, Bethel Sporting opened their campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Dreamers FC. Bethel overcame sustained pressure from their opponents and displayed defensive resilience to begin the tournament with maximum points.

Collins Edwin FC also made an impressive start by defeating Prince Kazeem Eletu FC 3-1. Their clinical finishing and disciplined defensive organisation proved decisive as they secured a comfortable victory to announce themselves as early contenders.

The opening round showcased the attacking talent and technical ability of the young players. Fans were treated to skilful dribbling, quick passing combinations, composed finishing and disciplined defending, while goalkeepers also produced several important saves to keep their teams in contention.
