Sunshine Queens FC delivered one of the standout performances of the 2026 Women’s President Federation Cup on Monday after an emphatic 5-0 demolition of Solo Wonders FC at the Awka Stadium to secure qualification for the Round of 16.
The Akure-based side were in devastating form from start to finish, with forward Aishat Adebowale stealing the spotlight through a clinical hat-trick that overwhelmed their opponents and highlighted Sunshine Queens’ attacking strength.
Precious Edewor and Alheri Ayuba also found the back of the net as Sunshine Queens completely dominated proceedings in a one-sided encounter.
The Nigeria Women Football League side wasted no time asserting themselves, racing into a comfortable 3-0 lead before halftime through swift attacking movements and impressive finishing.
Despite the commanding advantage, Sunshine Queens maintained their intensity after the break, adding two more goals to complete a comprehensive victory and reinforce their status as strong contenders in Nigeria’s oldest football competition.
Meanwhile, defending champions Edo Queens FC also progressed into the Round of 16 following a solid 3-1 victory against Tigers FC at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure.
Chioma Moses opened scoring for the Benin City outfit in the ninth minute before Esther Inyang doubled the advantage midway into the first half. NWFL Premiership top scorer Atume Doosuur added the third goal in the 58th minute to seal the victory for the title holders.
In another fixture at the same venue, Delta Queens recorded an equally impressive 5-0 triumph over Royal Queens to book their place in the next round of the competition.
These commanding performances by the tournament favorites underscore the high level of competition in this year's edition. With massive victories recorded across the fixtures, the advancing teams have firmly stated their ambitions as they prepare for the Round of 16.
