2026 President Federation Cup (Women): Heartland Queens seek revenge as Ibom Angels return to Aba

Posted : 17 June 2026

Heartland Queens will have revenge on their minds when they face Ibom Angels in the quarter-finals of the 2026 President Federation Cup on Thursday at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.

The encounter rekindles one of the fiercest rivalries in women's football, with memories of last year's competition still fresh. At the same venue during the 2025 edition, Ibom Angels edged Heartland Queens on penalties to advance, leaving the Owerri side with unfinished business.

Both teams earned their places in the last eight through impressive performances in the Round of 16. Heartland Queens cruised past Ahudiyannem Queens with a commanding 4-0 victory in Enugu, while Ibom Angels produced one of the biggest upsets of the competition, eliminating former league champions Bayelsa Queens 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Recent league meetings, however, favour Heartland Queens. The Owerri-based side collected four points from a possible six against the Uyo club during the just-concluded Nigeria Women Football League season, a record that could provide a psychological advantage heading into Thursday's showdown.

For Heartland Queens, the match presents another opportunity to break their quarter-final barrier in the competition. Having narrowly missed out on a place in the NWFL Super Six playoffs, the President Federation Cup remains their only route to silverware this season.

Coach Obi Ogbala will be banking on his side's recent form and attacking strength to deliver a long-awaited semi-final ticket. Across the dugout, experienced tactician Edwin Okon is expected to rely on his wealth of cup competition experience as Ibom Angels aim to repeat last year's feat.

With both sides carrying strong ambitions and a history of closely contested battles, football fans can expect an intense and entertaining contest in Aba.

The winner of the quarter-final clash will face either defending champions Rivers Angels or FC Robo Queens in the semi-finals of Nigeria's oldest domestic cup competition.

This upcoming fixture serves as a critical defining moment for both clubs as they chase domestic glory on the national stage. With old scores to settle and a coveted semifinal ticket on the line, the battle at the Enyimba International Stadium will ultimately show which side possesses the tactical discipline and resilience to advance.
