Ibom Angels have received a major morale boost ahead of their President Federation Cup quarterfinal encounter against Heartland Queens, following the announcement of attractive cash incentives by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey.
During a surprise visit to the team's training session, Bassey revealed that each goal scored against Heartland Queens in Thursday's quarterfinal tie in Aba, Abia State, will attract a reward of N100,000, while a victory will earn the team an additional N500,000 bonus.
The announcement came on the heels of Ibom Angels' impressive Round of 16 triumph over Bayelsa Queens, a result that secured their place among the last eight teams in the competition.
Encouraged by the team's recent performance, the Commissioner applauded the players for their determination and resilience, assuring them that greater rewards await as they continue their Federation Cup journey.
He also commended the club's management and technical crew for their commitment, reserving special praise for Club Chairman, Prince Ukeme Ukpong, whose leadership he described as exceptional.
Reflecting on the victory over Bayelsa Queens, Bassey expressed admiration for the team's display, noting that their performance exceeded expectations and demonstrated their growing potential in the competition.
The Sports Commissioner further challenged the players to adopt a winning mentality by focusing on personal ambition and self-improvement.
According to him, players perform at their best when they see every match as an opportunity to uplift themselves and their families rather than merely representing an institution.
Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, and the Club Chairman, Bassey's visit underscored the state's support for the team as they prepare for one of their biggest matches of the season.
With renewed confidence, financial motivation, and the backing of the state government, Ibom Angels will head to Aba determined to secure a semifinal berth in the 2026 President Federation Cup.
The state government's generous financial intervention has significantly energized the squad at a crucial juncture of the tournament. By aligning institutional support with personal player milestones, leadership has laid a solid foundation for athletic excellence on the national stage. The upcoming fixture in Aba will test the team's resolve as they look to translate this motivation into a historic semifinal ticket.
