Elkanemi Warriors FC suffered their first defeat of the ongoing preparation campaign after losing 1-0 to Mighty Jets FC in a keenly contested NPFL Super Six encounter at the New Jos Stadium on Wednesday.
The Maiduguri-based side, also known as the Babagana Umara Zulum boys, fielded a largely new-look squad, with only captain Usman Abbas and Bakura Jibril retaining their places from the previous setup.
Elkanemi Warriors enjoyed considerable possession and controlled much of the midfield exchanges in the opening half, but struggled to turn their dominance into goals. Mighty Jets, meanwhile, posed a constant threat from the wings and created a number of openings of their own.
Despite the attacking efforts from both sides, neither could find the breakthrough before the interval as the first half ended 0-0.
Mighty Jets returned from the break with renewed purpose and were rewarded in the 56th minute when Meyanga Usman produced a composed finish to put the Jos-based side ahead.
The goal sparked wild celebrations among the home supporters and forced Elkanemi Warriors to increase the pressure in search of an equaliser.
The Maiduguri outfit created several chances and sustained pressure in the closing stages, but Mighty Jets' young and determined defence stood firm to protect their narrow advantage.
Three minutes of additional time were played before the centre referee brought the encounter to an end.
