Police Machine FC strengthened their push for the top spot in the 2026 Nationwide League One (NLO) campaign after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over EFCC FC in a tense encounter at the Area 3 Pitch A.
With both sides desperate for maximum points to stay in contention with group leaders RBM FC, the clash lived up to expectations as chances flowed at both ends in an intense opening spell.
Police Machine showed early attacking intent, with Mustapha Bello going close twice inside the opening 10 minutes, but the striker failed to convert promising opportunities.
EFCC FC also threatened moments later when Reuben Bitrus squandered a clear chance after a brilliant attacking move initiated by Abah Imam and Richard from the flank.
The Police side continued to press and nearly found the breakthrough in the 16th minute when Yusuf Aliyu attempted an audacious long-range effort from the right wing, only to see his strike crash against the woodwork.
Their persistence eventually paid off in the 35th minute through substitute Chibuike Amadi. Daniel Ijaga delivered a perfectly weighted long ball into the area, and Amadi showed great composure to chest down the pass before firing beyond the goalkeeper at the near post for what proved to be the decisive goal.
Police Machine nearly doubled their advantage in the second half when Edward Ochigbo was left unmarked inside the box following a neat square pass, but the forward blasted his effort over the bar from close range.
Despite trailing, EFCC FC pushed for a late equaliser but struggled with the final delivery and precision in front of goal as the Police defence stood firm to protect their slender lead until the final whistle.
The victory moves Police Machine FC into second position on the table with 13 points from five matches, just one point behind leaders RBM FC, who have played a game more.
For EFCC FC, the defeat further dents their hopes of clinching the group’s sole qualification ticket, leaving their campaign hanging by a thread after another disappointing outing.
This crucial victory positions Police Machine FC as a formidable contender for promotion as they maintain pressure on the league leaders. The team's defensive resilience and clinical finishing in high-stakes moments suggest they are well-prepared for the final stretch of the campaign.
