Mosports FC secured qualification from Group B of the Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO1) Zaria Centre after battling to a dramatic 2-2 draw against Zaria United at the Nasara Stadium, Kofan Doka, Zaria.
Needing only a point to advance, Mosports FC showed composure under pressure as they finished top of the group with 10 points following an entertaining contest that went down to the wire.
Ibrahim Haruna and Usiju Ularju Papka once again delivered for Mosports, both scoring their second goals of the campaign in four matches to keep their side firmly in control whenever Zaria United threatened.
The draw officially ended Zaria United’s qualification hopes while confirming Mosports FC as Group B winners.
Attention now shifts to a high-stakes playoff showdown against Green Beret, who topped Group A with eight points after also completing the group stage unbeaten.
The decisive encounter is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, at the Nasara Stadium in Kofan Doka, Zaria, with a place at the national playoffs up for grabs.
Speaking after the match, Mosports FC CEO Raymond Moses Udofeh praised the team’s effort but insisted the mission is far from complete.
"We’re still a work in progress. We won’t get carried away after scaling this first hurdle.
"The real test is next week Tuesday. We’ll approach the game in our usual style and hope to win in the end to book a place at the national playoffs.
"Kudos to the boys and the entire team, but we’re not at the finish line yet."
Mosports FC will now look to extend their unbeaten streak when they face fellow unbeaten side Green Beret in what promises to be a fierce winner-takes-all encounter in Zaria.
