Police Machine FC head coach, Magashi Tenersizus, has revealed how tactical discipline, detailed preparation, and years of persistence helped his side secure a narrow but priceless 1-0 victory over RBM Sports in their final 2026 Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) group game.
The crucial win confirmed Police Machine’s qualification for the NLO playoffs, keeping alive their ambition of gaining promotion to the Nigeria National League (NNL) after several frustrating seasons of falling short.
Having entered the encounter needing only a draw to progress, Police Machine instead approached the game with a winning mentality.
Coach Magashi disclosed after the match that he had carefully studied RBM Sports beforehand and designed a tactical setup specifically to neutralize their strengths.
According to the experienced tactician, deploying a false-nine formation in the first half disrupted RBM Sports’ rhythm and prevented them from building dangerous attacking moves through the middle.
The strategy eventually paid off as Police Machine grabbed the decisive goal before reorganizing defensively to protect their advantage.
Magashi explained that his players were instructed from the touchline to “shadow” their opponents by closing passing lanes and denying penetrative balls into dangerous areas, while maintaining defensive structure throughout the contest.
The emotional significance of the qualification was equally evident in the coach’s post-match reaction. After years of repeated second-place finishes, Magashi admitted that finally reaching the playoffs felt like a personal breakthrough.
The Police Machine coach described the achievement as one of the most important moments of his managerial career, noting that the club had spent the last five seasons narrowly missing out on qualification.
Magashi also credited the recent transformation within Police sports administration for the team’s progress this season.
He praised the support received from the FCT Commissioner of Police and sports officials at the Force Headquarters, insisting the improved backing played a major role in the club’s success.
He noted that previous teams lacked sufficient financial and administrative support, but believes the current leadership, many of whom are former footballers, understands the demands of the game and has provided the structure needed for success.
The coach further appreciated the supporters who stood behind the team throughout the campaign, expressing confidence that Police Machine now has a genuine opportunity to secure promotion to the Nigeria National League.
With qualification secured, Police Machine will now await the conclusion of league matches across the country and the official playoff draws as they prepare for the next stage of their promotion journey.
The hard-fought triumph marks a turning point for Police Machine FC after five consecutive seasons of disappointment. By marrying tactical intelligence with robust administrative backing, Coach Magashi has built a team fully capable of competing at the highest level. The club now looks forward to the playoff rounds with renewed confidence and a clear path toward securing their long-awaited spot in the Nigeria National League.
