An artificial intelligence-powered football platform, ScoutLyx, has undergone a live match demonstration during the 2026 Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) Cup, as Paul E FC of Abuja defeated Bussdor United 2-0.
The Week Six encounter, played at the Area 3 Football Pitch, Abuja, provided an opportunity for the technology developers to test the platform's player analysis and talent discovery capabilities in a competitive setting.
Bussdor United, an Imo-based club, enjoyed a dominant first half, creating several scoring opportunities but failing to translate their superiority into goals.
However, Paul E FC returned from the break with renewed determination, taking control of proceedings and putting their opponents under sustained pressure.
Captain Nasiru Abdullahi broke the deadlock 18 minutes into the second half before Kelvin Emmanuel doubled the advantage to secure victory for the Abuja-based side.
Speaking after the encounter, Paul E FC Head Coach, Bolarinwa Idris, credited the team's improved display to management support and tactical adjustments made by the technical crew at half-time.
He particularly praised the club chairman for providing consistent encouragement, which he said motivated the players to deliver a better performance.
“I think that’s enough motivation for them to go ahead, and they came back and scored two goals for us.
“We told them from the second half that we would give them 50 minutes to make sure they win this match for us, and it ended the way we wanted. We won,” he said.
Idris also applauded the NLO for introducing the Cup competition ahead of the regular league season, describing it as an important platform for players to gain competitive experience.
He, however, urged the organisers to reconsider the fixture schedule, stressing that young players required adequate recovery periods to minimise injury risks.
“The challenge is that there is no more recovery time. We play on Friday now, and we need to play on Sunday again, and we play on Wednesday.
“Maybe in subsequent days, they should allow us at least three days’ rest for us to come back because the players are under-19 and Under-18. Because of injury, they need time to recover,” he said.
The coach described the officiating as fair and expressed confidence in his squad's potential, revealing that some of his players were aged 15, 16 and 17.
He also appealed to sponsors, partners and football scouts to support the club and create opportunities for its emerging talents.
Paul E FC captain Abdullahi described the victory as important to the team's campaign, saying it would strengthen their confidence ahead of their next fixture.
He attributed the second-half improvement to the coach's tactical instructions and encouragement during the interval.
Abdullahi, who named Spanish defender Sergio Ramos as his role model, expressed ambition to feature for one of Europe's top clubs within the next five years.
Meanwhile, Annabell Elesho, representing the ScoutLyx technology developers, explained that the platform was designed to provide artificial intelligence-driven player analysis, performance statistics and talent identification services.
She said the technology would help players assess their abilities and monitor their development, while providing coaches, scouts and other football stakeholders with data to evaluate emerging talents.
According to her, the Abuja encounter provided an opportunity to demonstrate a prototype of the platform during a live competitive match.
Elesho described the exercise as successful, noting that the test also enabled the development team to identify areas requiring improvement before its wider deployment.
