Enyimba International FC delivered a commanding performance to secure a place in the 2026 Abia State Federation Cup final, overpowering Abia Comets 4–1 in a one-sided semifinal clash at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
While the result itself underlined Enyimba’s dominance, the real headline was the emergence of a new generation of talent. Academy graduate Nelson Sule produced a stunning hat-trick, announcing his arrival on the senior stage in emphatic fashion, while fellow youngster Samuel Okechukwu added a composed finish to cap a performance driven by youth and energy.
Enyimba’s approach from kickoff was purposeful, but it took until the 13th minute for the breakthrough. Sule showed maturity beyond his years, latching onto a precise long pass from Emeka Onyema before calmly slotting past the goalkeeper to give the hosts a deserved lead.
Despite controlling proceedings, Enyimba went into the break with just the lone goal advantage.
However, the tempo shifted decisively after halftime, largely due to smart tactical adjustments from coach Emmanuel Deutsch.
The introduction of Okechukwu, Obichere Odinaka, and Issah Mohammed injected urgency and fluidity into the attack.
The impact was immediate. Sule doubled the lead shortly after the restart, reacting quickest to turn home from close range following a well-delivered cross by Odinaka. Although Abia Comets briefly threatened a response with a goal in the 63rd minute, their momentum was short-lived.
Okechukwu restored Enyimba’s cushion in the 70th minute with a delicate chipped finish, showcasing composure that belied his age.
As Comets pushed forward in search of a way back, spaces opened up and Sule exploited them ruthlessly. He completed his hat-trick in the 80th minute, finishing off a swift counterattack to seal an emphatic victory.
Beyond the scoreline, this was a statement performance from Enyimba’s development pipeline.
The seamless transition of youth prospects into the senior team once again highlights the club’s long-standing reputation for nurturing top talent.
Enyimba will now face Ahudiyannem FC in Sunday’s final, a rematch of last season’s showdown, which Ahudiyannem edged on penalties. With both sides already assured of spots in the National Federation Cup, the focus now shifts to local bragging rights and the pursuit of state glory.
For Enyimba, this semifinal triumph was more than just progression; it was a glimpse into a promising future led by the next generation.
The dominant display against Abia Comets reaffirms Enyimba’s status as a powerhouse in Nigerian football and sets the stage for a highly anticipated final against Ahudiyannem FC. With academy stars like Nelson Sule rising to the occasion, the People's Elephant appear well-equipped to reclaim their local dominance. The club now looks forward to Sunday’s final with both momentum and a clear vision for their long-term success.
