2026/27 NNL: Gombe United turn to Coach Sabo for promotion push

Gombe United have placed their promotion ambitions in the hands of experienced tactician Muniru Abdul-Azeez, popularly known as Coach Sabo, following his official unveiling as the club’s new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

The Savannah Scorpions are hoping that Sabo’s pedigree of helping clubs navigate the competitive Nigerian football pyramid will provide the technical edge required to secure a return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Sabo arrives at Gombe United with considerable experience at different levels of the domestic game, having built a reputation for guiding ambitious teams towards promotion.

His coaching credentials include a notable spell with El-Kanemi Warriors, where he served as Head Coach and was part of the technical setup that helped the Maiduguri-based club secure promotion from the NNL to the NPFL in 2012.

He was also involved in El-Kanemi Warriors’ more recent success, contributing to the club’s promotion campaign and Federation Cup triumph in 2024.

His latest assignment further strengthened his promotion credentials. As Technical Adviser of DMD, Sabo guided the club to promotion from the Nationwide League One (NLO) to the NNL in 2026.

That record of success is now expected to come under scrutiny at Gombe United, where the immediate objective is clear — build a team capable of challenging for promotion.

The club's management believes Sabo’s tactical experience, leadership qualities and familiarity with the demands of Nigeria’s lower-tier competitions will provide the foundation for a successful campaign.

For the Savannah Scorpions, the appointment represents more than a change in the technical department. It is a calculated move to inject experience and a winning mentality into the squad as the club prepares for another demanding NNL campaign.

With Sabo now officially at the helm, expectations will be high among the management and supporters, who will be looking to the new Technical Adviser to translate his promotion pedigree into another successful chapter for Gombe United.
