2026/2027 Season: Shooting Stars Begin Technical Shake-Up After Continental Return

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan have commenced a major reshuffle of their technical team ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, parting ways with head coach Nurudeen Aweroro and two other members of his backroom staff.

The club announced that Aweroro, Team Manager Tammy Tamuno and Assistant Coach Shakiru Lawal had reached mutual agreements with the management to bring their respective contracts to an immediate end.

The development comes shortly after the Oluyole Warriors secured a third-place finish in the 2025/26 NPFL season, earning the club a continental ticket for the first time in more than two decades.

Aweroro was appointed in July 2025 on a one-year contract with an option for renewal based on performance, succeeding experienced tactician Gbenga Ogunbote.

Under his guidance, Shooting Stars enjoyed an impressive campaign, finishing behind champions Rangers International of Enugu and runners-up Rivers United to secure a place in continental competition.

Despite the successful campaign, the club has opted for a change in its technical structure as preparations intensify for the new NPFL season.

In a statement, Shooting Stars said the decision followed discussions between the club and the affected members of the technical team, with all parties agreeing to part ways amicably.

The club expressed appreciation to Aweroro, Tamuno and Lawal for their commitment, professionalism and contributions during their respective periods of service.

Shooting Stars particularly acknowledged the trio’s role in helping the club finish third in the 2025/26 NPFL season and secure their long-awaited continental qualification.

“We thank them immensely for their service and wish them all the very best in their future endeavours and continued success in their careers,” the club said.

The departure of Aweroro means Shooting Stars will now enter the search for a new technical direction as the club prepares to combine domestic ambitions with its return to continental football.

The Ibadan-based side will also be expected to move quickly in putting together a new technical team capable of building on the momentum generated by last season’s impressive campaign.
