2026/2027 NNL Opener: Crown FC Stun Heartland with Spirited Second-Half Comeback

Posted : 03 November 2026

Crown FC of Ogbomoso announced their arrival in the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign with a spirited comeback, recovering from a two-goal deficit to hold Heartland FC to a 2-2 draw at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

The Ajilete Warriors displayed remarkable character after trailing 2-0 at half-time, with substitute Oyetunde Olalekan providing two decisive assists as the visitors rescued a valuable point.

Crown FC initially threatened through Osas Kelvin, who created two promising opportunities within the opening seven minutes, but the visitors failed to convert their early pressure into goals.

Heartland capitalised on the missed chances when Ekene Osuigwe opened the scoring in the 11th minute, giving the hosts an early advantage.

The Naze Millionaires strengthened their position in first-half stoppage time after Jonathan Osondu was fouled inside the penalty area before converting the resulting spot kick to make it 2-0.

However, Crown FC head coach Adejumo Fatai Akande introduced Olalekan after the interval, a tactical decision that dramatically changed the complexion of the encounter.

The substitute immediately injected fresh energy into the visitors' attack, setting up Kelvin to reduce the deficit in the 54th minute.

Barely 90 seconds later, Olalekan delivered another quality assist, allowing Mustapha Olamilekan to beat the Heartland goalkeeper and restore parity at 2-2.

The quickfire goals stunned the hosts and shifted the momentum in favour of the Ogbomoso side, whose determination to fight back was evident throughout the second half.

Heartland subsequently increased the pressure in search of a winning goal, but Crown FC maintained their defensive discipline, frustrating the hosts' attacking efforts.

The visitors remained organised through the closing stages and additional time to secure a hard-earned point away from home.

The result represents an encouraging start to Crown FC's new NNL campaign, particularly after the team's impressive response to a difficult first-half performance.

For Akande's side, Olalekan's decisive introduction and the team's collective resilience provide positive signs as the Ajilete Warriors prepare for their subsequent league assignments.
