2026/2027 NNL: Mighty Jets Begin Campaign Against Yobe Desert Stars

Posted : 07 November 2026

Mighty Jets International FC will kick off their 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign with an away encounter against Yobe Desert Stars on Saturday, hoping to build on their encouraging pre-season performances and secure a positive result.

The Jos-based club head into the opening fixture after months of intensive preparations, which included participation in several pre-season competitions in Jos and Lafia. The team will be looking to establish itself among the leading contenders in Nigeria's second-tier league.

Under head coach Ency Enie's guidance, the players have shown renewed determination ahead of the new season, with the technical crew eager to translate the progress made during pre-season into competitive performances.

Mighty Jets participated in the NPFL pre-season tournament in Jos in August, where they recorded impressive victories over top-flight teams El-Kanemi Warriors and Katsina United. They eventually finished third behind Plateau United and tournament winners Enugu Rangers.

The team subsequently travelled to Lafia, where they suffered a 2-0 defeat to FC Basira before responding with a 2-1 victory over Nasarawa United at the Lafia City Stadium.

Returning to Jos, the club concluded another phase of their preparations with an impressive 4-2 triumph over Jigawa Golden Stars at the New Jos Stadium.

Midfield prospect Ukeyima Emmanuel and forwards Tochukwu Ibedu and Usman Meyanga were among the standout performers during the preparatory matches. Their contributions are expected to play an important role in the team's campaign.

Away from the pitch, Mighty Jets have also taken steps to strengthen their administrative structure with the appointment of John Ladan as the club's General Manager.

The appointment is expected to support the club's ambitions of improving its competitiveness, strengthening its organisational structure and achieving greater stability.

Ladan brings valuable experience in Nigerian football administration, having previously served on the boards of Plateau United and JC Raiders. He has also worked as a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match commissioner.

His professional background extends beyond football administration, having served as Director of Works at Plateau State Polytechnic, where he also doubled as head coach of the institution's football team.

The club expects his experience in football governance, player development and institutional management to provide the leadership needed to improve its operations and establish a foundation for sustainable growth.

With their pre-season preparations completed and a new administrative direction in place, Mighty Jets will now focus on the challenge of facing Yobe Desert Stars in their opening league fixture.

A positive result away from home would provide a valuable confidence boost for the Jos-based side as they begin their pursuit of a successful 2026/2027 NNL campaign.
