2026/2027 Football Season: Barau FC Retains Core Squad of 21 Ahead of New NPFL Campaign

Barau Football Club has reaffirmed its commitment to stability ahead of the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season by retaining 21 players from last season's squad.

The decision, announced by the club's General Manager, Dominic Iorfa, followed extensive consultations with the technical department as preparations intensify for the new campaign.

The retained players are Emeka Nwabulu, Chisom Chiaha, Oscar Destiny, Sugau Aliyu, Bismark Duah, Usman Maidubuji, Henry Ezeonye, Chisom Nkwocha, Orji Kalu, Jimmy Ambrose, Nura Muhammad, Moses Tsehuan, Sa'ad Tijjani, Ebuka Nwokorie, Sunday Anthony, Hillary Ekawu, Joseph Atule, Adamu Hussaini, Ibrahim Yunusa, Uche Moses, and Stanley Oganbor.

While confirming the retained squad, the club also expressed gratitude to players who will not continue with the team, acknowledging their commitment and contributions during their time with the Maliya Boys.

"Barau FC would like to thank all departing players for their service and commitment to the club and wishes them every success in the future," the club said in a statement.

The decision to keep the majority of last season's squad underlines the club's belief in continuity as a foundation for further progress.

Management is expected to focus on strengthening key areas of the team through strategic recruitment ahead of the new season.

Barau FC enjoyed a remarkable turnaround during the 2025/2026 campaign. After a difficult start to life in the NPFL, the club recovered strongly under the leadership of General Manager Dominic Iorfa to finish eighth in the league standings, an encouraging result in its debut top-flight season.

With a solid core of experienced players already in place, the Kano-based side will now set its sights on improving on last season's performance when the 2026/2027 NPFL season gets underway.
