2026/2027 EuroMatch NPFL Matchday 9: Nasarawa United Strengthen Revival with Inter Lagos Win

Posted : 20 October 2026

Nasarawa United continued their impressive resurgence in the 2026/2027 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a commanding 2–0 victory over Inter Lagos FC at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

The result marked the Solid Miners’ first away win of the campaign and, according to the club, their biggest away victory by scoreline in their history, underlining their growing confidence under head coach Mbwas Mangut.

Nasarawa United combined tactical discipline with improved finishing to overcome the hosts, securing three valuable points that lifted them to sixth position on the league table with 14 points.

The victory also reflected the visitors’ efforts to address their earlier shortcomings in front of goal, an area assistant coach Stephen Moga identified as a priority in their preparations.

“We are grateful to God for today's victory,” Moga said after the match.

“We have been strategizing to get the results we yearn for to be able to get what we want, both in the league and continent.

“Regarding our conversions, we have actually been working so hard on our scoring abilities because we realized we were faltering at the final third. To achieve your targets, you need to convert your chances and be ahead of your opponents.”

Moga also acknowledged Inter Lagos’ quality, insisting that the outcome reflected his team's superior performance on the day rather than any lack of ability on the part of their opponents.

“Inter Lagos are not a bad side. We were only better today. I believe they will get out of their current position,” he added.

Beyond the three points, the triumph attracted an immediate financial reward from the Nasarawa State Government, with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development presenting the team with ₦1 million for the achievement.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Jibril Abdullahi Ibrahim, and the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Stephen Iliya Sasetu, were among the officials acknowledged for their support.

Nasarawa United chairman Solomon Babanjah praised the players and technical crew for their performance while expressing appreciation to Governor Abdullahi Sule for supporting the team's welfare and facilitating air travel to Lagos.

According to Babanjah, the flight helped reduce travel fatigue and allowed the players and officials to approach the encounter in better condition.

The victory provides a timely boost for the Lafia-based club as they seek to sustain their upward movement and build consistency in the league.

Their next challenge will be against former African champions Enyimba FC, who are scheduled to visit Lafia City Stadium on Sunday, October 25, for a Matchday 10 encounter.

With confidence restored and their finishing showing signs of improvement, Nasarawa United will aim to turn their latest away success into another positive result before their home supporters.
